Rustproofing Service
Why rustproofing?
Is it really necessary?
At Manga Auto Import, we believe it’s not an option but a necessity. You’ve probably noticed the roads turning white in the winter. Not white from snow, but from salt!
The amount of salt spread on roads in Eastern Canada is absolutely massive. Salt is used to melt ice, making the roads dryer and safer, which makes sense at first glance.
The catch is that salt is extremely corrosive to metal and eats away at vehicles, rendering them unusable. Since the value of the vehicles we import partly relies on their cleanliness, it’s wise to want to protect them as much as possible against salt.
Are all rustproofing treatments the same?
Not at all. Some can be done in 30 minutes. Others use ineffective products that don’t last. At Manga Auto Import, our treatments take several hours (varies depending on the vehicle).
We use a combination of two products, the first being an extremely durable corrosion inhibitor (CRC SP-400). This product dries and becomes nearly impossible to remove with water pressure under the vehicle.
It’s applied wherever water splashes with pressure, which tends to remove most rustproofing products on the market. Once the product application is complete, we let it dry for at least 24 hours. It’s important to understand that this isn’t like paint or tar coating, both of which can “trap” moisture. The SP-400 doesn’t allow water to enter, doesn’t detach, and doesn’t chip off. It remains securely adhered to the surface. You could think of it as a semi-permanent treatment (we prefer the term semi-permanent over permanent because nothing is eternal…).
For chassis interiors and all cavities, as well as interior panels, we use more conventional but still high-quality rustproofing products like Wool-wax and fluid film (lanolin-based) as well as Sinto S-2000 (polymer-based). These more liquid products spread better into joints. Even though water can reach these areas, it won’t be under pressure, so the products will resist effectively.
We’ll also apply another layer of this latter product over the dried SP-400 layer. This will double the protection in a way and extend the lifespan of the SP-400 to the maximum.
Do you need to repeat the treatment every year?
No. However, it’s recommended to check the condition of the second layer after each winter and reapply as needed.
Do you need to drill holes in the vehicle’s body?
Yes, but only if there’s no other access, like removing a molding or an interior panel, for example. We consider a hole better than an untreated surface that might later develop rust.
